[vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]Great news!   Sacred Bean Coffee CIC, supported by our friends at Ozzy Road Baptist Church has been successful in a bid to the Futures Fund and won a grant for £10,000 in January 2020.

Fire It Up Derby!  is a programme specially put together for this grant opportunity.   We are going to deliver a project aimed at helping, encouraging and motivating 10 people who are a long way from the job market, move closer to being ready for work.   The project will involve us finding the 10 people – called Participants – and signing them up for the project.  We held a Taster Day in mid-February 2020, so people could come along and find out more.  Participants can learn how to roast coffee, pack and despatch coffee with Darren, and they can also volunteer at Ozzy Road on a number of practical projects including the Dove Café, a drop in for people who are vulnerably housed, or Hammers and Spanners which is a practical team doing jobs around the building.  All of these activities are really good ways to learn skills needed in the workplace, as well a chance to experience being part of a team.

Each Participant also has an allocated allowance to spend on formal courses such as Food Hygiene, First Aid etc.   It’s a 6 month project with 5 people on a 10 week programme which runs twice, making 10 people in total.

Pictured is Paul Brookhouse, Project Manager for our Fire It Up Derby programme, pictured at Ozzy Road Church were some of the sessions will be delivered.

In order to deliver this project, which has quite strict requirements, we advertised for a Project Manager and Administrator and we have interviewed and appointed the amazing Paul Brookhouse.  Many of you will know Paul from his time at the Hope Centre or on the Derby Churches Nightshelter Management Group.  He’s got lots of experience in helping people who are in need, plus has delivered this sort of grant before. Paul will be working 2 days a week on this project from February to July.

This project is funded by the Skills Funding Agency and the European Union’s European Social Fund.

Stop press: We have recruited our first 5 Participants who have all been roasting coffee.  However, due to Covid-19, this project has been temporarily paused but we are planning to Fire It Up again, in June 2020 to finish the programme for the first group of 5 Participants and to start recruiting the next 5.  This programme will be extended by a couple of months in terms of the finish date, but we do have an opportunity to also apply to the next round too.
